The criteria for each diamond, even the smallest, are among the most demanding in the world of jewelry (See the 5Cs at Van Cleef & Arpels). Simple quality standards do not suffice when identifying an exceptional gem. With their most precious tool - their eyes - the gemologists inspect and examine the stones one by one, in search of a stone with character.
They observe and consider the size, shape, color, and clarity of the stone at different times of day, retaining only the diamonds with the extra spirit that makes their heart beat a little faster.
